Sweden's Practical International Jury

Voting in the final of Melodifestival is slightly different from the previous five contests. Viewer can still text and call to support their favorite artists, but they are not the only ones with a voice. An international jury will be voting as well. It's a newer concept instituted a few years back and has been working out well for Sweden since it started. Sweden has placed third and first in Eurovision since the contest instituted a full international panel in 2011. Not a bad record so far. Before this, hand picked juries from various areas in Sweden cast their vote.

Having an international panel gives Sweden a better chance to win Eurovision, the thinking goes. Any song that wins Melodifestivalen has to have a large number of votes from a multinational jury. It's a weeding out process for songs many might Swedes like, but the rest of Europe would not listen to more than once. It seems to be working. Swedish practicality in action.

This year, jury members are from:

  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • France
  • Germany
  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Malta
  • Spain
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom
